PlayStation 5 Pro Leaked: Huge Power Boost Expected for Upcoming Console

Details have been leaked of the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro console ready to take gaming to the next level.

The machine is expected to launch later this year, just in time for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025, the PS5 Pro boasts some impressive upgrades.

A new report now claims while the CPU stays the same, a new “high frequency” mode promises a 10% power increase for the CPU, with minimal trade-offs to the GPU’s performance. Storage space also gets a bump, with the Pro model offering a full terabyte of storage compared to the original PS5’s 825 gigabytes.

But the real star of the show is the graphics department. Ray tracing, a tech that delivers stunning visuals, is said to be getting a two to four times performance boost over the base PS5. The GPU is rumoured to pack a whopping 33.5 teraflops of power, more than tripling the original model’s capabilities and enabling 8K resolution gaming.

The combined changes make the Pro 45% faster.

One particularly intriguing leak mentions a “custom machine learning architecture,” hinting at exciting possibilities for AI-powered features in future games.

Experts are understandably impressed. Rob Dwiar of TechRadar called the GPU upgrade “an enormous jump,” suggesting it’s a more substantial leap than the PS4 Pro upgrade of the previous generation.

This news comes after Sony’s recent statement that the current PS5 is nearing the end of its lifecycle, with sales expected to slow down. The PS5 Pro seems poised to pick up the torch, offering a significant performance boost for gamers unwilling to wait for the next-gen PlayStation 6, rumoured to arrive in November 2027 based on past release patterns.
